Educational therapy begins with consultation with parents/caregivers, formal and/or informal assessments, school visit (if deemed helpful), review of any outside testing and evaluation(s), and consultation with allied professionals. Therapy goals are established based on each child's specific learning profile.
Goals focus on leveraging strengths, remediating challenges, and addressing skills gaps. Goals also consider the emotional connection to learning and functioning at home and school. The ultimate goal of educational therapy is to help each student become confident, competent, independent learners and self-advocates.
Educational Therapy services are provided in a professional office setting or may take place at the client's school during the school day, if permissible.
One-on-one sessions are typically 50 minutes in length. Sometimes sessions are shorter or longer, depending upon the needs of the client and/or the client’s family. In these cases, sessions are prorated. The frequency and duration of therapy varies and is also based upon the individual needs of the client.
